NewSpace Economic Development
The Space Frontier Foundation's Executive Director, Jeff Krukin, is working with several organizations in his home state of North Carolina to demonstrate how the state can contribute to and benefit from the emerging commercial space industry.
Although not a traditional aerospace state, North Carolina does have aviation and non-aerospace technical and manufacturing industries that can participate in a larger Aero/Space Economy. The Foundation intends to use this work as a template to assist other non-traditional aerospace states.
Participating North Carolina Organizations:
Institute for Emerging Issues
Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology & Science
North Carolina Board of Science and Technology
North Carolina Department of Commerce
North Carolina Space Initiative

The Frontier Enabling Test
Our definition of a "frontier enabling" technology or policy is one which has as its effect the acceleration of the creation of low cost access to the space frontier for private citizens and companies, enables or accelerates our use of space resources, and/or accelerates the rate at which wealth can be generated in space. In other words, is the project or policy going to provide a return on the national investment, if we define "return" to be the economically sustainable human habitation of space?
