"Next Time We Stay!" - On Apollo Anniversary, Experts Gather to Plan Return to the Moon

Los Angeles, CA, July 11, 2000 – Entrepreneurs, experts and scientists will meet July 20th and 21st at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas to discuss plans for lunar exploration and settlement, including the recently announced, first ever, commercially sponsored missions to the Moon. The Lunar Development Conference, or Return to the Moon II, is quickly becoming the professional "must attend" forum for the exchange of "must have" ideas and information, highlighting the technologies and social/economic factors that will allow humankind to return to the Moon and establish a permanent presence there.

Papers will be presented on leading edge ideas for lunar exploration, transportation, habitats, science and business opportunities. Presentations will also feature the recent RadioShack and LunaCorp announcement to fund the first commercial Lunar mission, recent data on lunar ice deposits, NASA lunar exploration plans, and exciting new entrepreneurial lunar projects such as the low-budget TransOrbital Lunar Orbiter.

Companies and groups presenting at the event include Boeing Company, NASA/Johnson Space Center, Ball Aerospace, Bigelow Aerospace, LunaCorp, Advanced Space Research, Lunar Research Institute, Naval Center for Space Technology, PoliSpace and TransOrbital Inc., among many others.

The event is co-sponsored by the Space Frontier Foundation, the Space Studies Institute, the Moon Society and the National Space Society, and is underwritten by FINDS (the Foundation for the International Non-Governmental Development of Space).

The Frontier Enabling Test
Our definition of a "frontier enabling" technology or policy is one which has as its effect the acceleration of the creation of low cost access to the space frontier for private citizens and companies, enables or accelerates our use of space resources, and/or accelerates the rate at which wealth can be generated in space. In other words, is the project or policy going to provide a return on the national investment, if we define "return" to be the economically sustainable human habitation of space?
